Energy |
Energy is a vital commodity that will remain critical to Kenya’s industrialization and overall economic development. The Kenyan government’s ambitious rural electrification program as detailed in Vision 2030, the current major shortfall in the supply of electricity nationwide, and perennial blackouts, all combine to elevate energy to one of the sectors with greatest investment potential in the country. The demand for energy in the country will continue to grow and, through its hydro power projects, A.M. Ventures has positioned itself to be among the key private energy generators in the country under the government’s national feed-in tariff program. Energy generation is, therefore, the company’s flagship.
A.M. Ventures completed a pre-feasibility study of a hydro power site with a 2MW capacity on the slopes of Mt. Elgon. The Kenyan Ministry of Energy granted the company its Expression of Interest to develop the site. The Energy and Environment Partnership for Southern and East Africa (EEP-SEA) has recently awarded A.M. Ventures a grant to carry out a detailed feasibility study of the site on Mt. Elgon.
Adequate, clean, renewable and reliable energy will attract local and foreign investment for Kenya and spur manufacturing. This will create job and investment opportunities for Kenyans, which will in turn reduce poverty and improve the general standard of living for Kenyans. Clean, renewable energy will also enable Kenyans to reap the full benefits of information and telecommunication technology while creating better living conditions for them, at home or in institutions. Availability of clean, renewable energy will free up time spent by Kenyans on collection of traditional, inefficient and outmoded sources of energy such as wood fuel and charcoal so such time can be used on other economically productive activities. Its availability in institutions such as schools and hospitals will make service delivery much more efficient. Electricity as an alternative source of energy will reduce dependence on expensive fossil fuels, contribute to reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate change. The A.M. Ventures hydro power projects will constitute an important contribution to Kenya’s energy security. |
